Growing up in Knightdale, we had the Gold Leaf Farmer, a weekly newspaper, to cover local events. I remember they even reported scores from my rec league soccer games. I learned to manually layout my high school newspaper as we published it out of their office in Zebulon (they also published the Zebulon Record). The paper transitioned to the Eastern Wake News before ultimately ceasing operations in 2017.
My inspiration comes from a local news site launched by Joe Mecca when he lived in Churchill. It had a positive impact on my life by letting me know about performances at Knightdale High School before I had a son there. This is the impact I'm aiming for, to compile information about local events in a space people find relevant and return to on a regular basis.
Many articles may simply be taken from press releases. I'm not a professional journalist but I hope to ask the questions you would ask so you can more fully understand and connect with our community. This is a labor of love for me, not a business. I strive to serve you with integrity and community spirit. All I ask is that you extend me some grace as I learn, read once a week (or month), and share articles on your social media.
Please let me know if you have story or topic ideas.
